October 10 is World Mental Health Day
Date:

On Monday, October 10, Casa Treatment Center is celebrating World Mental Health Day. Every year, World Mental Day is a day to raise awareness about mental health care issues worldwide. This day provides an opportunity for everyone affected by mental health, either personally or through someone else, to talk about their experiences. For this year, the World Health Organization would like this day “to provide us an opportunity to re-kindle our efforts to protect and improve mental health”. The theme for 2022 will be “Making Mental Health & Well-Being for All a Global Priority”. This theme is significant considering all the worldwide events that have been happening in the last several years; the biggest being COVID-19.

At least one in eight individuals is affected by mental health issues. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a 25% increase in the prevalence of anxiety and depression within the first year alone. Mental health services and treatment were disrupted during this time which led to a widening in mental health struggles. As a result of the pandemic, relationships, work, and the day-to-day activities of millions of people were affected

Mental health has been a rising topic within the last year. What is extremely important is to know your mental health and well-being. When you find yourself to be tired; it is important to take time for yourself to:

  • Process your emotions
  • Promote relaxation
  • Spend time with loved ones
  • Do things that you enjoy
  • Reduce stress
  • Exercise and eat healthy

Mental health awareness is extremely important because it helps educate people and helps them find resources. By normalizing mental health issues, more individuals are confident enough to get the help they need without the fear of stigma or discrimination. There are still individuals who feel worried about going to therapy or being open about their mental health struggles. Another positive about mental health awareness is that it makes people feel less alone. Many people suffer from mental health conditions, however, their experiences when it comes to mental health can be shared. This helps many people feel that they can be open about their mental health with others which can improve mental health.

You can access the World Health Organization’s page here to learn more about World Mental Health Day. Casa Treatment Center believes that mental health is extremely important for one’s health. We are here to support an individual’s decision for recovery and treatment.
